“The authors of this scene look at all the subjects of ignorance and harmful negative stereotypes,” says the Simon Wiesenthal Center about a recent delivery of an Orthodox patient.

An episode of the NBC medical drama Nurses deserved condemnation from the Simon Wiesenthal Center over a conspiracy involving an Orthodox Jew who refuses a bone graft from a potentially ‘Arab’ or ‘female’ donor.

The controversy led to NBC covering the episode from all digital platforms and future broadcasts.

‘The authors of this scene mark all the subjects of ignorance and harmful negative stereotypes to the name of the patient, Israel – payouts [sidelocks] and all, “reads a statement.” In one scene, NBC insulted and demonized religious Jews and Judaism. “

The scene – which aired on February 9 in an episode called ‘Achilles Heel’ and was first called by the website Jew in the city – has a young Orthodox Jew named Israel who was laid to rest in a hospital bed after an accident. His father stands at his bedside, insisting that ‘the Creator’ will heal him. A nurse says “medicine” is the answer to his broken leg.

Soon a doctor informs them that Israel will need a bone graft – a part of a cadaver’s bone must be surgically placed in its own bone.

“Do you want to put a dead leg in me?” Ask Israel.

A death goyim leg – of anyone. An Arab, a woman, ‘said his father in horror.

“Or God forbid an Arab woman …” the nurse intervenes sarcastically.

Israel refuses the treatment, saying, “It is God who heals what he creates.” His father looked at it approvingly.

There are no restrictions in Orthodox Judaism regarding transplants from corpses.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center responds to the scene, “Orthodox Jews are being targeted for violent hate crimes in New York City. Jew is [the] number one target of hate crimes in the US. It was a common, cheap attack that was presented as a TV drama. What is NBC going to do about it? ”

Elsewhere, B’nai Brith Canada demanded action on the episode. ‘The disturbing stereotypes that appear in this episode of Nurses is very harmful to Jews, especially Orthodox practitioners, ”said Michael Mostyn, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada, in a statement. “We call on the producers to act responsibly and take responsibility for this outrage.

The Toronto set Nurses is a Canadian series that was recorded by NBC in late 2020 amid a shortage of original programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The anti-Jewish controversy comes in the wake of another case involving NBC Saturday Night LiveA Michael Che recently joked: “Israel reports that they have vaccinated half of their population. I’m going to guess that it’s the Jewish half.”

The remark led the Anti-Defamation League to issue a statement monitoring the “Weekend Update” segment, which “repeatedly” used Jews inappropriately as the victim.

NBC responded to the Nurses controversy by picking up the episode from digital platforms and canceling all future broadcasts, according to sources with knowledge of it. While the network is in talks with various Jewish groups, it does not intend to issue a statement condemning the episode.

The season finale of Nurses broadcast. 23 February. NBC is unlikely to order further episodes as production of its regular series rises again following the closure of COVID-19.

February 24, 13:14 Updated to include NBC’s performances.
