When Matt Patricia was sacked as head coach of the Lions and appointed by the Patriots, he did not get the title of defense coordinator, which was his previous job in New England. This led to questions about what exactly Patricia would do for the Patriots.

One thing he does is help the Patriots prepare for the NFL draft.

Pat Belo coach Bill Belichick told reporters today that Patricia was among the most important people in gathering information on draft prospects.

“We gathered a lot of information,” Belichick said. “Matt rejoined us and was very involved in the process.”

Patricia previously only worked on the coaching side, not on the staff side, but under Belichick, the Patriots did not have the strong dividing line between coaching and staff that some teams have. Patricia was also involved in signing free agencies, and Belichick believes staff is the place where Patricia can offer the most value to the Patriots.
