7 injured after moving away from NYC tandem bus, with front half hanging over viaduct – NBC New York

At least 7 people were injured after a New York City accordion bus veered off the road and half of it hung over an overpass.

According to a police spokesman, the BX-35 bus driver was unable to drive near the Cross Bronx Expressway and University Avenue near 11pm on Thursday and went off the road. No other vehicles were involved in the incident and no arrests were made.

Six of the injured were bus passengers and the other one was the driver, according to police and MTA spokesman Tim Minton, with minor injuries to the hospital.

The FDNY later said there were nine people injured in total. It is unclear whether the other two are also passengers.

Minton said it was too soon to speculate on the cause of the incident. He said the bus driver’s route calls left to the highway, but for whatever reason the bus missed the turn.

Videos from the Citizen App show great reaction from the police at the scene and many people gather to take photos and videos.

Delay is expected in the area until a crane arrives to remove the bus from the bridge.
