‘World’s most unfortunate burglars’ arrested after picking up police with their pockets during robbery

An officer in Staffordshire, central England, described the thieves as the “most unfortunate burglars in the world” and compared them to the unfortunate crooks in the movie “Home Alone”.

He said one of the couples mistakenly sat on his phone and called 999, the British emergency number, so officers could hear the crime going on and finally listen to their colleagues who arrested the duo.

“I think we have just arrested the most unfortunate burglars in the world,” Chief Inspector John Owen wrote on Twitter.

“While committing a burglary, one of the burglars accidentally put on his phone and dialed 999,” he wrote.

“We received a call outlining all their antics to the point that we heard patrols arriving to arrest them.”

Owen included a poison from “Home Alone” character Marv, who sustained an insult to injuries that are comically unsuitable for a life of crime in the Macaulay Culkin Christmas movie.

In 2016, two equally unfortunate robbers held a McDonald’s in France – only to discover that 11 armed members of an elite paramilitary force had accidentally eaten inside.
