Former Wisconsin starting quarterback Jack Coan is moving to Notre Dame, he announced Monday night.
“Thank you very much for the opportunity. Let’s start working! @NDFootball,” Coan wrote on Twitter. He has one season of fitness left.
Coan, who started 18 games for Wisconsin in 2018 and 2019, suffered a foot injury in the preseason camp and underwent surgery. He did not appear in any games as Graham Mertz and Chase Wolf handled the quarterly duties.

The 6-foot-3, 221-pound Coan entered the NCAA’s transfer portal last month. The Notre Dame full-back Ian Book, a three-year starter, is expected to go to the NFL draft, though he has not officially announced his decision. Irish return eighth-man Drew Pyne and Brendon Clark, and bring Tyler Buchner, ESPN’s no. 7-pocket pass and no. 39 player in the 2021 working class.
Coan completed 68% of his passes for 3,278 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in Wisconsin. He completed a team record of 236 passes in 2019, which helped the Badgers achieve a Big Ten West division. Coan completed nearly 70% of his passes and achieved the third highest pass rate (2,277 meters) in team history.
Notre Dame will face Wisconsin on September 25 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
