A gang of thieves who were on the lookout for a £ 320,000 wine robbery eventually threw expensive bottles at police during the car chase in France.

The thieves started throwing the expensive bottles of wine at French gendarmes when they drove off the highway at around 05:15 on Tuesday, the Guardian reported.

They were located at the luxurious Relais Château Hotel Domaine de Rymska, located 30 km from Beaune, Burgundy.

The doors of the hotel’s wine cellar were broken open by the thieves who then ended up with hundreds of bottles of wine.

The owner of the hotel was awakened after the fire alarm started going off before he got into his car and chased the van.

He continued to call for help as he chased them on the A ^ Autoroute du Soleil motorway, which was heading south in the direction of Lyon.

A police officer joined him at the hotel owner, but as they approached the van, the thieves threw bottles of stolen wine at their pursuers.

The thieves then abandoned their bakkie 22 kilometers north of Lyon after breaking into a toll border.

Police said no one was injured and that the bottles thrown at the gendarme’s vehicle were missing.

An investigation has begun and police said they are looking for at least three men.

Investigators are also investigating whether this incident was related to a second burglary at the hotel that took place only 24 hours earlier.

In the earlier burglary, £ 180,000 worth of fine wine was stolen from the same cellar that was broken into during this latest incident.
