Walgreens, Jewel Osco Opens COVID Vaccine Appointments to Phase 1 Illinois Residents – NBC Chicago

As of Monday, several Walgreens and Jewel Osco locations have vaccinated or opened appointments for Illinois residents eligible under Phase 1B of the state vaccination.

Phase 1B opens up vaccinations for people 65 and older, as well as ‘essential workers’, who respond first, including teachers and educators, supporters, childcare workers, grocery stores, postal workers and more.

There are various ways in which residents can be eligible to be vaccinated, but government officials have encouraged patience as the new phase begins.

According to the Illinois government, JB Pritzker, Walgreens has begun delivering vaccinations at 92 locations across the country. Jewel-Osco begins vaccinations Tuesday, but begins the site to schedule appointments Monday.

The state said that ‘additional pharmacy partners will also come online in the coming days and open registration for appointments’.

A Walmart spokesman confirmed Friday that the wholesale retailer will begin delivering vaccinations this week and next week in the city of Chicago as well as in Indiana, along with six other states.

The company already offers vaccinations in New Mexico and Arkansas, where it is headquartered. (Click here for more information on how to implement it.)

In addition to Walgreens and Jewel-Osco, the Illinois Department of Public Health has also launched a website where residents are eligible to find vaccinations and make appointments.

Pritzker said in a statement: “This website will serve as a hub of all information related to vaccine and residents will lead to the homepages of 97 local health departments and our pharmacy partners. Also contains information about our first mass vaccination website in Illinois, which opens tomorrow at the Tinley Park Convention Center, and will be updated as more state-owned sites and hundreds of additional local options become available online, as federal supply is currently limited and every state in the country has a shortage, I do calls on all Illinois residents to check back regularly for available appointments – and in the meantime hide, keep our distance, wash our hands and remember that we ‘will stay healthy and safe if we take care of each other.’
