Ukraine seizes 1 tonne of heroin en route to Europe

Ukrainian officials say they seized about 1.1 tons of heroin that smugglers planned to take over countries in the European Union and that four Turkish citizens were detained in the case.

A statement from the National Prosecutor General said on Tuesday that heroin had been seized in the city of Lviv, about 30 km from the Polish border.

It is said that the heroin originated in Pakistan and came to the country via the Black Sea port of Odesa.

The heroin, valued at $ 81 million, was to be taken to the EU under the guise of diplomatic cargo, the statement said, but gave no further details.
