UConn Health cancels first dose of COVID-19 vaccinations planned for next week due to deficiency – NBC Connecticut

UConn Health has canceled all first-dose COVID-19 vaccine appointments scheduled for the coming week due to a vaccine shortage.

Officials said there is a shortage of the vaccine at federal and state level and the current allocation of the vaccine is currently being reduced.

All first dose appointments scheduled for Monday, February 1st through Monday, February 8th at UConn Health have been canceled.

The coronavirus vaccine has been shown to be safe, but some of the temporary side effects can feel quite uncomfortable – especially if you are taking the second dose. Iahn Gonsenhauser, chief patient safety officer at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, describes his own experience with ‘extreme’ fever and chills after his second shot, so you know what to expect.

According to UConn Health, decisions will be made next week on whether to cancel additional appointments after February 8.

UConn Health does not accept new first dose appointments by phone or online.

Officials said everyone should continue with a second dose of appointment during the period as scheduled unless contacted by COVID-19 vaccine program staff.

Those currently eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine include:

  • Phase 1a: Persons serving in healthcare services and at risk of having direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials.
  • Phase 1b: Individuals 75 years or older.
