The Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) expects summer travel to increase.
On Friday, the agency announced that it would appoint more than 6,000 officers for transportation safety by the summer.
The TSA expects more people to start traveling again in the summer, especially as COVID-19 vaccines become more available.
“TSOs are a critical first defense to secure our country’s commercial air transportation system,” said Melanie Harvey, acting executive assistant director of TSA.

“Every day, our officers inspect hundreds of thousands of airline passengers to make sure they arrive safely at their destinations,” Harvey added. “We expect to regularly inspect a larger number of travelers by the summer months and will need additional officers to support our critical mission.”

According to the announcement, the TSA wants to fulfill part-time and full-time roles at 430 US airports.

The agency said it had already announced ‘targeted recruitment, virtual job fairs and opportunities in dozens of cities’.

The TSA also said it was particularly looking for people “who want to take the first step in a rewarding federal career and support the TSA’s critical mission to protect the country’s transportation systems.”
