Tramon Williams is in Green Bay on Wednesday for a free agent visit to the Packers and is expected to sign if things go well, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 37-year-old cornerback was released by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week after their playoff game against the Buffalo Bills.
Williams has appeared in six regular-season games with the Ravens this year after signing the mid-season. He recorded 169 snaps on defense as a reserve corner, including 55 snaps in the Ravens victory over the Giants.
If he’s signed he’s unlikely to count on heavyweights, but given his familiarity with the Packers system, he could be a valuable depth – if only the Packers would not eventually turn to Josh Jackson. .
As Silverstein noted in his report, Williams can also provide some reliability as a scoring ladder, given Tavon Austin’s contradiction there. He served as the Packers’ primary points learner in 2010 and also served for a time in 2018.
If (and apparently when) Williams joins the Packers, it will be his third series in green and gold. He originally joined the Packers’ training group in 2006 before being a key member of the Second Packers series from 2007 to 13. After three years in Cleveland and Arizona, Williams rejoined the Packers for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Williams made the Pro Bowl in 2010, a season highlighted by his legendary pick-6 in the Packers Division victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
