Toronto Blue Jays place closer to Julian Merryweather on 10-day IL with oblique tension

DUNEDIN, Fla. Toronto Blue Jays rapper Julian Merryweather has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left side.

The right hand felt uncomfortable in the left side of his abdomen on his last warm-up field in the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s 7-3 victory over the New York Yankees.

Merryweather entered with two runners-up and two outings, throwing just two spots to Aaron Hicks before Gary Sanchez was marked in a break between the first and second bases to a field in the ground. He did not return for the ninth.

Merryweather had two saves and allowed just one shot and one run with seven shots over 4 innings in four games. His fast ball has reached 100.4 mph this season.

Ross Stripling was also scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday against the Yankees due to the tight right arm. He could not break free before the game.

TJ Zeuch replaces Stripling.

Game notes: RHP David Phelps, who was hit in the lower back by Clint Frazier’s 100.7 mph liner on Tuesday night, is with a bruised back daily. … RHP Anthony Castro has had his contract bought from the alternative site and will work out of the bullpen.
