Murkowski confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday that she would support the outcome of the 2020 election during a January 6 joint sitting.
“I will vote to confirm the presidential election in 2020. The courts and state legislatures have all complied with their duty to hear legal allegations and have found nothing to overturn the result. I appeal to my colleagues from both parties to do so. to recognize and to join me in maintaining confidence in the Electoral College and our election, ”Murkowski said.
Toomey said the evidence is overwhelming that Joe Biden won this election.
The IDP senator also expressed blatant criticism of some of his IDP colleagues for challenging the election results next Wednesday.
A fundamental, defining characteristic of a democratic republic is the right of the people to elect their own leaders. “The attempt by Senators Hawley, Cruz and others to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election in swing states like Pennsylvania directly undermines this right,” Toomey said in a statement.

Trump, who endorsed efforts to challenge congressional election results, claimed the election was tainted by widespread voter fraud. The 11 senators said in their joint statement that the 2020 election contains ‘unprecedented allegations of voter fraud’.
The efforts of Trump’s legal team to challenge the results in key states were rejected by the courts and election experts rejected allegations of widespread electoral fraud.
If an objection has the support of a member of the House and a member of the Senate, the two chambers separate for up to two hours. Both the House and the Senate will then vote on whether the objection should be upheld, requiring a majority in both chambers to be successful.
Toomey, who earlier spoke out against Hawley’s plan during a GOP phone call, added in his statement that he would vehemently ‘defend our form of government’ on Wednesday by opposing this attempt to deny millions of voters in my state and others.
Wednesday’s objections will fail because Democrats control the House and several GOP senators have said they will oppose objections next week.
But Wednesday is only the third time since 1887 that Congress has had to debate and vote on an objection. Attempts to change the results in 1969 and 2005 also failed.
The statement by Murkowski and Toomey is the latest sign of public backlash from Senate Republicans amid deep frustration in the caucus over Hawley and others’ decision to contest the election result.
In order to bring about a debate and vote, the Conservatives of the House needed the support of at least one senator, something they did not have before Hawley’s announcement Wednesday.
