She’s halfway to an EGOT.
Tiffany Haddish was not at the Staples Center for the Grammys on Sunday – she was working.
But her acceptance speech was easily the best of the night; the comedian recounts on Twitter the moving moment when she discovers that she is winning the best comedy album.
While handing out the phonographs, Haddish filmed her TV show “Kids Say The Darndest Things”, and it was while chatting with two adorable little girls about the nomination that her producer let her know over her earpiece that she was no longer just a nominee.
How I Found Out I Won a Grammy While at Work @KidsSayDarndest I am so honored to share with the kids. The full situation is on my YouTube page. pic.twitter.com/pYzmt4nIgo

“I was nominated a few times,” the producer led her as she followed on camera, “… but I just won a Grammy.”
“… I just what?” Tiffany screams to a halt. ‘I just won a Grammy? Are you serious? I really won? ‘
The host then burst into tears and said to her little guests, “Do you know that a black woman has not won in the category since 1986?”
“Yes,” replied one of the premature ladies, of course. “I learned it from black history month.”
“A black woman did not win for best comedy album since Whoopi Goldberg,” Tiffany told the girls before asking, “Can I tell you why I’re crying?”
“It’s a lot of bumpy roads you cross, right? And it will often feel like you ‘are doing the right thing? Is it good enough? Am I good enough? Am I strong enough to do this job?’ “

“And you should believe in yourself as much as you can. And in all probability you just say, ‘You know what?’ I’m just giving my best foot, and I’m going to give the world the best I’ve got. Right? Anything is possible. ‘
Describing what happened next on YouTube, she wrote: ‘The producers decided to tell me that I WON a Grammy while interviewing these two young ladies Lauren and Ava, who will one day be President of the United States of America want to be. ‘
‘I was flooded with [such a sense] of performance and relief. I quite did not know what to say. I just wanted to cry, but I knew it would have confused the babies. So I decided to use that moment to learn and share my feelings. Thank you @recordingacademy for the honor. “
With “Black Mitzvah”, Haddish was actually the only woman in the category this year, and only the sixth woman to ever win it.
By the way, the victory of Whoopi in 1986 was her first step to become an EGOT winner. Tiffany already has her Emmy (which she won in 2018 for an excellent guest actress in a comedy series on SLN) … so two off, two to go!
