Most people got the idea to wear face masks when the pandemic started, but doctors and medical professionals have been doing it all their professional lives. And although you probably know very about masks at this stage, it is understandable to be curious about the face masks that doctors wear out of service.
After all, medical professionals need protection in the grocery store and also when they work. And since the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention recently released new guidelines on masks, most people have been thinking about masks lately.
Thereupon, 13 medical professionals across a variety of fields tell Yahoo Life that they are wearing an N95 or surgical mask. Some say outside of work that they continue to wear N95 masks. Since the CDC still recommends that it be reserved for health care workers, we only focused on disposable and cloth options that they work for. This is what doctors use for face masks when they are not seeing patients.
The majority of medical professionals say they like to wear a mask outside of work. “I only wear a regular disposable surgical mask,” says Dr. Amesh A. Adalja, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Safety, dr. Amesh A. Adalja. Dr. Timothy Murphy, senior co-dean for clinical and translational research at the University of Buffalo, tells Yahoo Life that he is doubling surgical masks. “When I went out, I wore two surgical masks – one knotted for a good fit, to use both the extra layers and the fit to maximize the protection of myself and others,” he says. And Dr Gloria A Bachmann, medical director of the PROUD Gender Center of New Jersey at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, tells Yahoo Life that she opts for a ‘standard throw-away mask’ with ‘no distinctive features or messages’ for a reason . . “I want to send the universal message that we are all participating in this – that we wear a mask while working, shopping, walking in my area, etc., that’s what we can all do as a team,” she says. .

For everyday use outside the clinic and the hospital, dr. Angela Caswell-Monack, a woman at Women’s Wellness in Southern Delaware, reaches out to these popular Old Navy face masks. A major benefit of these face masks, she tells Yahoo Life, is the adjustable ruffles. “I can tighten the lower band and it fits closer to my cheeks,” she says.

Several doctors say they have followed the CDC’s new recommendations for double masking. Dr. Richard Watkins, an infectious disease physician and professor of internal medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, tells Yahoo Life that he will place a surgical or cloth face mask on top of a medical procedure mask for added protection. “I do not want to take any chances,” he says. Health expert for women, dr. Jennifer Wider tells Yahoo Life that she is also double-masking, especially in the grocery store: ‘Surgical mask underneath and cloth above’. Wider says Umma’s cloth mask is her favorite – they have multiple layers and a ‘cozy’ nose thread.

Dr. Jessica Shepherd, a woman in Texas, is a big fan of these masks. “It has a soft material that is treated with the Silvadur antimicrobial preservative technology,” she tells Yahoo Life. That technology helps prevent the growth of bacteria, mildew and mildew that can cause your mask to smell or discolor over time. “They are washable and reusable, and reinforced with gauze lining,” she says. “But I love that it also contains a bag to store it.”

Several doctors use PM 2.5 filters to make their face mask of cloth even better. “If I do not wear my surgical mask that I wore all day, I tend to slip into one of my cloth masks,” says Dr. Sophia Tolliver, GP at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, to Yahoo Life. “It has a triple layer with a PM 2.5 particle insert to provide extra protection.” Dr. David Cennimo, assistant professor of infectious medicine pediatric diseases at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, tells Yahoo Life that he usually wears the same procedure mask that he wears all day at work. “It seems less wasteful,” he says. But he does have face masks of fabric that he also uses. “They’re all triple material with a filter insert,” he says.
