The standard hotel closes its location on the Sunset Strip on Friday – deadline

The Hangout of Celebrity at Sunset Boulevard The Standard Hotel in West Hollywood is expected to close on Friday, ending a 22-year career as a venue for numerous Hollywood parties.

The venue, formerly owned by hotelier Andre Balazs, who also owns the nearby Chateau Marmont, was opened in 1999 with the financial support of Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Benicio del Toro, among others. The showbiz roots of the site are reflected in the interior, originally created by film designer Shawn Hausman.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the closure of The Standard, Hollywood, which will close its doors indefinitely on Friday, January 22,” a report on the company’s website said. “Despite 22 years of unconditional love for our hotel, our guests, our team and our community, the hotel has not been able to significantly increase the lease agreement, making the industry impossible.”

The report continued: ‘Alive with personality & personalities, and the backdrop of countless legendary stories, Hollywood was the birthplace of The Standard’s culture. It came to life through its timeless design, live music performances at Desert Nights, the blue Astroturf pool scene, live art in ‘The Box’ and the very late, hazy nights in our nightclub incarnations: Purple Lounge, Mmhmmm and Giorgio’s. Although there are and will be more standard hotels, there will never be a standard, Hollywood, again. And while it’s painful to say goodbye, we know that the community that inspired us will live on. Thanks for everything. We are eternally grateful. ”

Balazs sold its 2017 stake in the property and management business. There were five hotels called The Standard in the US, including locations in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Miami, and two in New York. It is unclear whether the closure of the Sunset Strip will affect the other sites.

Eric Mayor Eric Garcetti says Dodger Stadium delivered an incredible 7,730 vaccines against Covid-19 on Wednesday; Probably more “than anywhere in the country, if not the world”

The hotel was known for its upside-down logo and its business closet, thanks to the numerous parties thrown into the venue.

The Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the hotel industry. The landlord of the hotel, a real estate investment firm in Spain, could not be reached immediately for comment on the plans for the site.
