MILWAUKEE, Wis (WMTV) – The Aurora Medical Center in Grafton says the person who removed more than 500 doses of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine admitted on Wednesday that he did it on purpose.
Earlier this week, the Medical Center said it was reported that 57 vials of the vaccine had been removed from a pharmacy cabinet overnight, and that an immediate internal investigation had led investigators to believe the removal was caused by an unintentional human error.
However, the person in question admitted on Wednesday that they had done so intentionally.
According to the Aurora Medical Center, contact has been made with the authorities and the incident is being further investigated.
“We are more than disappointed that the actions of this individual will result in a delay of more than 500 people receiving their vaccine,” the Medical Center said in a release on Wednesday. “It was a violation of our core values and the individual is no longer employed by us.”
Clinicians were still able to administer some of the vaccine from the vials within the permitted window after cooling.
Once the vaccine has been thawed, it cannot be frozen again.
