“The New York Tax Commission has received a summons from the Manhattan District Attorney regarding the Trump Organization’s properties,” Laura Feyer, a spokeswoman for the New York City mayor’s office who also speaks on behalf of the property tax office, told CNN .
Feyer did not comment further on the matter. Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance’s office declined to comment. CNN released the Trump Organization for comment.
Vance’s office is investigating whether the Trump Organization violated any state laws, including insurance fraud or tax fraud. His prosecution team is investigating what the Trump organization has told credit providers and tax authorities about the value of its assets and the legality of tax deductions, including relief and consulting fees the company has taken.
Investigators are also investigating numerous loans the Trump organization has taken out, including those of Deutsche Bank and Ladder Capital, CNN reported this week.
Meanwhile, prosecutors are awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on a major jury summons to Trump’s accounting firm Mazars USA for his financial records, including his tax returns.
The subpoena issued to the New York City Tax Commission, which reviews annual tax assessments by the Treasury Department, is a further sign that prosecutors are investigating whether Trump’s cases are misleading local tax authorities about the value of his properties.
The New York Tax Commission is investigating applications for tax relief and whether applicants have been improperly denied real estate tax exemption.
