The Houston Department of Health is reopening COVID-19 waiting lists for vaccinations for older adults, and continues to focus on new awards at the most vulnerable

12 February 2021

HOUSTON The Houston Department of Health today reopened its COVID-19 vaccination waiting list for people 65 and older, people 60 and older with chronic health conditions and people with disabilities.

Those who qualify can call the Area Agency for Aging at the department at 832-393-4301 to leave a voicemail with their name and phone number. Calls will be returned for selection and scheduling as stock is available. People only need to leave one message behind.

The department interrupted on January 29 to add people to the waiting list after receiving about 70,000 calls. There are currently about 10,000 people on the list.

An additional 9,000 first doses of vaccine arrived at the department on Friday and another 1,900 are expected early next week. Of the new allocation, 6,729 are for the department’s aging agency, 3,974 for providers in underserved communities and 197 for previously scheduled appointments during the week of 15 February 2021.

The department’s vaccination premises were closed on Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather. People who made appointments on those days will be contacted to reschedule.

People can register for the Houston Recovery subscribe to AlertHouston to learn more about new appointments through email, text messages, voice calls, or a mobile device notification.

Second doses
The department will schedule 4,784 doses next week by contacting it via sms and email with links to register itself.

People with Internet or technological challenges and those who do not receive a message should contact the COVID-19 call center 24 to 48 hours before Moderna’s recommended 28-day deadline.

If contact information has changed since someone received the first dose from the health department, you should notify the call center at 832-393-4220.

People who received their first dose at Minute Maid Park on January 16th will receive their second dose at Delmar Stadium or Minute Maid Park on February 12th.

People vaccinated by the Department of Health during the week of 18 to 23 January will be scheduled for second doses from 17 to 20 February.

The department is currently supplying the Moderna vaccine, with the second dose being recommended 28 days after the first dose. Updated guidance from CDC states that it should be administered as close as possible to 28 days, but that it can be scheduled up to 42 days after the first dose.

The department only provides second doses to people who have given the first dose.
