LONDON (AP) – Prince Philip has had a successful heart procedure in a London hospital and is expected to remain for a few more days of ‘rest and recovery’, Buckingham Palace said on Thursday.
According to the palace, the 99-year-old man of Queen Elizabeth II underwent a successful procedure for an existing heart condition at St Bartholomew Hospital. ‘
“His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for a number of days for treatment, rest and recovery,” the palace said in a statement.
Philip, 99, has been hospitalized since being admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London on February 16, where he was treated for an infection. He was taken to a specialized heart care hospital, St. Louis, on Monday. Bartholomew’s, transferred.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, said on Wednesday that Philip’s condition ‘slightly improved’.

Philip’s disease is not believed to be related to the coronavirus. Both Philip and the monarch received COVID-19 vaccinations in January and chose to make the case known to encourage others to take the vaccine as well.
Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, retired in 2017 and rarely appears in public. Before his hospitalization, Philip isolated himself with the queen at Windsor Castle, west of London.
Although he was in good health until old age, Philip had heart problems in the past. In 2011, he was rushed by helicopter to a hospital after experiencing chest pain and was treated for a clogged coronary artery.
Philip married the then Princess Elizabeth to the then royal spouse in British history. He and the queen have four children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His illness comes as the royal family’s support for the broadcast of an interview that Oprah Winfrey conducted with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, left their royal service last year and moved to California, citing intolerant intruders and racist attitudes from the British media.
The relationship between the couple and the palace seems to have become increasingly tense. On Wednesday, the palace said it was launching an investigation into human resources after a newspaper reported that a former assistant Meghan had bullied staff in 2018.
In a clip from the pre-recorded Winfrey interview, released by CBS, Winfrey asks Meghan how she feels about the palace “do you hear your truth being told today?”
“I do not know how they could have expected us to be silent after all this time only if there was an active role that the firm plays in continuing falsehoods about us,” the Duchess said.
‘The Firm’ is a nickname for the royal family, sometimes used with love and sometimes with a little criticism.
