EXCLUSIVE: Representatives of the American Conservative Union had sharp words for Hyatt Hotels’ leadership on Monday after the company that hosted the CPAC meeting in 2021 issued statements that the ACU claimed it was “disrespecting and slandering” it.
Matt Schlapp, chairman of the American Conservative Union, told Fox News that the political group intends to stand up because he says Hyatt Hotels “has covered up the lies of the canceled cultural experts on the left” amid a controversy about the design of the stage. .
Schlapp said that because CPAC is such an ‘effective’ platform, he expected critics from across the aisle to focus the opportunity ‘in an attempt to cancel us’, but the US Conservative Union did not expect to repel what he sees. as attacks from the company it worked with to host the event.
“Contrary to Hyatt’s own mission statement of inclusivity, your business attacked its own client by applying pressure from politically motivated social media agitators trying to get CPAC, our participants, and speakers from across the country and the “Destroy millions of Americans who support our work,” said David Safavian, chief executive of the United States Conservative Union, in a statement.
The disagreement comes after critics say the CPAC stage design resembled a hate symbol known as a Norwegian Rune, which appeared on Nazi uniforms.
In response to a scream on social media, Hyatt said in a statement that the U.S. Conservative Union, which hosts and manages the event, “manages all aspects of the logistical events, including stage design and aesthetics.”
“We spoke directly to the ACU leadership who told us that any agreement with a symbol of hatred is unintentional,” the statement continued.
In another statement, the group said it would recognize the “potential” hate symbolism if it had proactively addressed it. However, it said it would continue the event after the CPAC organizers assured them that any agreement was completely unintentional.

Schlapp, who called the allegations “absurd”, said the organizers of the event worked with Hyatt on a coordinated public response, but claimed that the company waited until CPAC was over to break their understanding and “us to despise ‘as a way to try. to “give favor to the cancellators of leftists.”
“We’re going to stand up for our honor and our character, and it’s just absurd to accuse this conference and our organization of being anti-Semitic when we [U.S. ambassador] until Israel speaks from that point on, ‘Schlapp said, adding that there were also independent Jewish religious services that helped facilitate the hotel.
Safavian’s letter states that the Conservative group worked with Hyatt Hotels and subcontractors throughout the planning process – including on stage design, pointing out that no one from the company expressed concern during that time.

Hyatt also alleges that conference attendees were “hostile” to hotel staff over attempts to enforce the mask policy.
Schlapp told Fox News that the event was led in terms of public health protocols by Florida Attorney General and Florida Gov. DeSantis. DeSantis spoke during the event.
Schlapp also said the Hyatt Regency Orlando seized the opportunity and was aware from the outset of the group’s mission and what it stood for. He said he was being fired by many employees who liked to work, given the impact of the pandemic on the US economy – and specifically the hospitality industry.
Asked by Fox News whether the U.S. Conservative Union plans to cut ties with Hyatt Hotels for future events, Schlapp said the group is reviewing all of its options. He also called on conservative Americans not to spend their consumer money on companies that would “attack” them on a false charge.
A Hyatt spokesman did not immediately return Fox News’ request for further comment.
As previously reported by FOX Business, Hyatt Hotels defended its decision on Friday night to host the Conservative event, which some people endorse the company by allowing it to take place at one of its properties.
The hashtag #boycottHyatt began to spread on social media, but a spokesman for Hyatt Hotels said at the time that the company was ‘proud to operate a highly inclusive environment’.
It reiterated the values in a statement on Sunday.
The three-day event was held at the Hyatt Regency Orlando in Florida, with a number of prominent Republican speakers from lawmakers and former administration officials to President Donald Trump.
