The Atlanta rapper, Silento, has been arrested in the murder of his cousin who was shot dead in DeKalb County, Georgia last month, authorities said Monday.
Silento, whose real name is Ricky Hawk, 23, was arrested Sunday for the murder charge, according to DeKalb County jail records.
An incident report from DeKalb County police shows officers found Frederick Rooks, 34, on a road in Panthersville, southeast of Atlanta, around 9:30 p.m., on Jan. 21.
Rooks were shot in the face and a leg, the report said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors heard several gunshots and alerted authorities, the report said. A safety video showed several cars fleeing, one of which was honking its horn.
The department did not provide further details on how investigators identified Silento as the suspect.
Representatives of Silento did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Silento’s single “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)” from 2015 earned him a top spot in the Billboard Hot 100 and nominations in television awards.
Silento was arrested last year and accused of driving 143 km / h on Interstate 85, reports the NBC subsidiary WXIA from Atlanta. According to the station, he told police he was speeding after leaving a club in Gwinnett County.
