The 19-year-old shoots grandfather, aunt, dead cousin and then continues with racketeering by SW Miami-Dade, police say

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. A 19-year-old man is behind bars after a Saturday morning riot with a family and a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood. It all happened after a Ruben Warren Williams was confronted by his grandfather about smoking pot and other substances.

Williams is accused of shooting and injuring his grandfather and aunt and killing his cousin. He faces several serious charges, including second-degree murder.

According to police documents, Williams became upset when his grandfather spoke to him about his drug use at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday. Williams responded by shooting his grandfather, and then shot his aunt.

The two victims jumped out of a second story window to escape from the home where the shooting took place along Southwest 294 Street near Southwest 142 Ave.

The male victim allegedly broke both ankles and had gunshot wounds to his back. According to the report, the woman had gunshot wounds to her upper limbs.

In the living room of the home, Williams shot his cousin, who was identified as 27-year-old Carlton Tillman. Tillman eventually collapsed on the kitchen floor, where Miami-Dade Fire Rescue found him dead due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Williams then went to the house looking for his grandfather and aunt, and allegedly did not know they had jumped. Two other adults hid with their 4 children in an upstairs bedroom after hearing shots.

According to police, the man hiding in the bedroom had his own gun and left the bedroom. He made contact with Williams and they exchanged gunfire, but the man withdrew and returned to the bedroom where he blocked the door with a dresser.

No one hid in the bedroom, according to police.

“There was an oral dispute within the residence that escalated and led to shots,” Detective Kristopher Welch of the Miami Dade Police Department said at the scene.

Williams then left the home, where he noticed his aunt outside. He started chasing her through the neighborhood while shooting at her, police said. She escaped the gunman by running to the neighbor’s yard. Exclusive surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News shows a neighbor helping the injured woman.

Police said Williams also shot and injured a neighbor’s barking dog.

Williams then escaped from the scene after jumping on the passenger side of a vehicle that was standing. The unsuspecting woman stopped to locate the address of a store on her cell phone.

The woman said Williams got into the car, put a gun to her head and shouted at her to drive. He demanded her phone and wedding ring, the victim told police. She said she gave the items to him and Williams held her with a gun and forced her to drive around for several hours, she said.

Witnesses told police they saw Williams enter the woman in the black vehicle. Williams also contacted his sister and told her he had abducted a woman for her car.

Police eventually caught up with Williams on Saturday night and arrested him.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and declared Tillman dead. The man and woman were transported in critical condition by helicopter to the Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma.
