Ted Cruz: Wife Heidi ‘nicely preached’ over leaked text messages on Cancun trip

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said his wife Heidi was “pretty good” after someone apparently leaked her texts with neighbors inviting them to escape to Mexico amid a severe winter storm in Texas earlier in February.

“I would say, Heidi is beautiful about it,” Cruz said on the “ruthless” podcast. “She texted several of our neighbors. Look, our neighbors, we have a number of Republicans who are our neighbors, but we also have a number of Democrats. ‘

“It’s a sign of how ridiculously politicized and filthy – here’s a suggestion, do not just be a hole. Treat each other like people,” he continued.

While Texane struggled after deadly winter storms that devastated the state’s power grid, the Republican senator ended up in hot water after photos appeared on social media showing him and his family flying to Mexico for vacation. Cruz flies back to Houston the next day amid the setback. He later admitted that it was a mistake.

Days later, leaked texts revealed that Heidi was discussing icy conditions in Texas and inviting neighbors for an outing to a resort in Cancun, Mexico, even though state residents were without power or clean water.

In the texts obtained by the New York Times, Heidi Cruz allegedly told neighbors on a group wire on Wednesday that her house was “freezing”. She invited neighbors to go on a trip to the Ritz-Carlton resort in Cancun with the Cruz family, adding that they had stayed ‘many times there’.

Cruz also pushed back against reports that the family dog, Snowflake, was in danger when the family left the podcast.

“I spend too much time on Twitter, so I apparently saw that I literally fed Snowflake to the wolves,” Cruz said. “Of all the ridiculous stories, look, I like Snowflake. He was home with a dog sitter, and actually the heat and power were on again. This reporter went to our house and took a picture of Snowflake standing at the front door. looked out, what he does most days. ‘

Cruz said there will be some very real questions after the power grid in Texas fails.

“I think a lot of Texans are rightly turned off,” he said. “We’re the energy capital of the world, and we could not light our cooler lights or turn on our heat, and that’s furious. So there will be a lot of real questions about why the network was not willing to deal with it.”
