A married UK teacher convicted of having sex with her 15-year-old student has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.
Kandice Barber, 35, of Wendover, Buckinghamshire, was sentenced in Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday to six years and two months in prison, the Scottish Sun reported.
Barber, a mother of three, was convicted in January of sexually cheating or inciting a child for having sex with a teenager in a field, but was found not guilty on two separate charges of the same charge. .
She was arrested in March 2020, four months after the principal at Princes Risborough School saw an explicit photo of her shared at a high school about 40km north-west of London.
Jurors during Barber’s trial heard evidence that she started messaging the teenager in 2018 after taking her phone number during a school sports day meeting.
The couple’s messages quickly became ‘sexual’ and Barber sent the boy topless photos of her on Snapchat. She later picked up the 15-year-old to have sex with him in a secluded field.
Barber also sent ugly text messages to the boy – among other things as she taught him in class.
“You can not make me blush if I learn now, poker face,” reads one message.
A classmate of the teenager said he also saw a message from Barber that read, “Do you prefer boobs or hobo?”
The teenage student also shared a selfie with shower, which Barber sent to him, with a friend, as well as another photo of her bending over a bed.
Meanwhile, Barber’s husband backed his wife in court, saying their marriage was just as strong as ever.
But a former boyfriend of Barber’s said he had to end their relationship due to her insatiable sex drive, reports the Scottish Sun.
“When it comes to sex, she was just incredibly fresh and that got her into all this trouble,” Barber-ex said. ‘We would drive somewhere, and she would say,’ pull, I feel horny. It just became too much for me. ”
As part of her sentence, Barber will have to notify police of her address for the rest of her life and is banned from working with children and vulnerable adults, reports the Evening Standard.
“I have no doubt that you acted in a serious breach of trust,” a judge told Barber. “You exploited a child in your care and cared for him for your own sexual gratification.”
