The Supreme Court on Monday rejected attempts by President Donald Trump and his allies to have the court quickly considered, rejecting the challenges of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the November election. The move effectively closes the door on the president’s latest legitimate strategy to reverse his defeat.
The court issued an order this morning denying speeding up Trump’s campaign against the election procedures in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
It also denied a request by conservative conspiracy theorist L. Lin Wood to expedite his challenge to the election in Georgia, as well as other lawsuits filed by Trump allies.
The action of the court was generally expected and did not accompany any explanation or opinion, as is typical in such denials. There was no knowledge of deviations from any of the court’s nine judges.
The judges returned from their winter break to meet for a private conference on Friday. The order list released Monday is the first since the DC riot last week in which a crowd of Trump supporters wanted to delay the certification of Biden’s victory over Trump in Electoral College.
The court made it clear that it would not process the cases according to the schedule requested by Trump before issuing the order.
For example, in Trump v. Boockvar, one of the cases that disputes the election procedures in Pennsylvania, the president’s attorney, John Eastman, asked the court in a December order to address the matter before January 6, when Congress met to ratify the election. Colleague count.
Eastman wrote that if the court does not act before January 20, when Biden will be inaugurated, “it will be impossible to restore the outcome of the election” which includes votes he said were illegally cast on the basis of rules passed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Trump angrily disputed his loss of Biden in an unprecedented way in modern American history. On Monday, Democrats in the House of Representatives are expected to file an indictment based on his actions during a protest before the Capitol siege, in which he urges supporters to ‘fight’ and his lawyer, the former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, called. for “trial by battle.”
