A streamer has already cleared the first area of Super Mario World with voice controls.
Twitch streamer juzcook has taken on the task of tackling Super Mario World’s demanding platform stages with nothing but voice commands and infinite patience. Instead of a gamepad, juzcook used the VoiceBot program to set up a series of macro commands that would give an emulator the desired input; by, for example, saying “tap right” to take Mario a step to the right or “jump left” to make him jump to the left.
There are two main problems with this approach: it takes much longer to say “jump left” than to press left and B at the same time, and it also takes a while before the program recognizes each command. then enter the appropriate input into the game. These are extremely relevant issues when trying to jump over a series of bottomless pits or directly on top of Iggy Koopa’s strange head.
World 1 was conquered in a single session without Gameover! Found some nice backup streets tonight 🥳 pic.twitter.com/lcUJynQEr927 January 2021
Yet, juzcook eventually managed to complete World 1 after giving some optimization maps and more specific commands to the macros, and the voice-activated battle will continue as the streamer takes on the rest of the game. Just think of trying some of the Chocolate Island stages with nothing but repeated cries of “Jump!” and “Stop!” is enough to give us the shiver, but we have faith.
Bowser’s Fury does not support voice commands, but does it turns everything into cats, and it’s probably much better for your blood pressure.
