Some Manhattan Starbucks closed Sunday due to expected protests

MANHATTAN (WABC) – Select Starbucks stores in Manhattan were closed Sunday due to expected protests.

A Starbucks official said it was decided out of a plethora of caution that stores should be closed with the safety of partners and customers.

Eyewitness News stopped at two Starbucks locations and both put up signs on their window saying they were temporarily closed.

Operations are expected to resume on Monday.

So far, no major protests or disruptions have been reported in NYC.

Meanwhile, some heads of state have been shut down, fences have been erected and extra police are in place across state houses across the US, as authorities boast of possible violent protests in the coming days.

The tightened security measures were intended to protect the seats of government from the kind of violence that took place at the American Capitol on January 6, when a supporter of President Donald Trump overwhelmed the building while Congress confirmed the Electoral College.

The FBI has warned of the potential for armed protests at the country’s Capitol and all 50 capital buildings starting this weekend.

Some social media posts were aimed at demonstrations on Sunday, although it was unclear how many people would possibly turn up.
