Scottish police shut down Kilmarnock Hospital after ‘serious incident’

LONDON (Reuters) – Police in Scotland have closed Crosshouse University Hospital and a main street in the town of Kilmarnock on Thursday as they dealt with three possible related incidents.

The first took place outside the hospital at 19:45, police in Scotland said, followed by a second about 20 minutes later in Portland Street, and the third, a serious road accident, on the A76 road around 20:30.

“We can confirm that the ongoing incidents in the Kilmarnock area are not being treated as terrorist-related,” police said.

They said inquiries were at an early stage and that the areas were cordoned off. “There is no cause for concern for the wider community,” they added.

Scottish Justice Minister Humza Yousaf has advised the public to avoid both Crosshouse Hospital and Portland Street and said police were attending a very serious incident.

The Scottish Sun reported that the hospital was closed amid reports of stabbing.
