Producer Scott Rudin says he is ‘retiring’ from his film and streaming projects, in addition to his Broadway productions.
In a statement released today, Rudin said:
‘I’m retiring from my film and streaming projects, in addition to my work on Broadway. I do this to take the time to work on personal issues I should have had in a long time. When I commented over the weekend, I was intent on reopening Broadway successfully and not wanting my previous behavior to detract from everyone’s attempts to return. It is clear to me that I need to take the same movie and streaming. I am very sorry for the pain my behavior has caused, and I am taking this step with the commitment to grow and change. ”
Rudin’s upcoming film and streaming projects include Netflix The woman in the window and A24s The people. His statement today did not specify the projects by name.

The statement reflects the one Rudin issued on Saturday, which focused exclusively on the producer’s stage work. He currently has four projects returning to the Covid-closed Broadway once the theaters reopen: To Kill a Mockingbird, The Book of Mormon, West Side Story and to open the not-yet-open The Musician starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.
None of Rudin’s statements give exactly what ‘retreat’ entails. In the Broadway-directed announcement, the producer said he would withdraw from active participation in the productions, with his “roles to be filled by others from the Broadway community and, in a number of cases, from the roster of participants already on those shows. ”
Rudin’s announcements follow in the wake of a recent Hollywood Reporter story in which four former Rudin employees described bullying and harassment in the workplace, including episodes in which the Broadway and Hollywood producer included three articles, including A Staple and ‘ a baked potato, and in one case a laptop on an assistant’s hand.
Foster, who will play with the upcoming $ 17 million revival The Musician, expressed over the weekend that Rudin’s decision to renounce active participation in his performances “is the only positive outcome.” Actors’ Equity has called on the producer to release all employees from non-disclosure agreements.
