Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted and destroyed an unspecified “hostile air target” on its capital Riyadh on Saturday.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting a war in neighboring Yemen did not provide further information in the statement released on state television. On Saturday morning, a loud surge was heard over the central Riyadh, accompanied by a trace of white smoke in the air.

The government also did not say who could have been behind the attack. In the past, similar intercepted ballistic missiles fired by Houthi rebels in Yemen have blocked the kingdom, where the coalition has waged a five-year war to restore the internationally recognized government.
