Video footage captured the moment Saudi Arabia intercepted a missile fired by Iran-backed fighters.

A Saudi-led military coalition said on Saturday it had intercepted a Yemeni ballistic missile strike aimed at Riyadh, the Saudi capital.

The state news agency SPA reported that Lieutenant-Colonel Colonel Mohammed Al-Hammadi, civil defense, said that a ballistic missile was launched to Riyadh by Houthi fighters in Yemen, which supports Iran.

It reports that the missile was ‘intercepted and destroyed’.

SPA also reported that no deaths or injuries were reported, and only one house in the city was erected.

Drones were also aimed at ‘civilians and civilian objects’ aimed at the cities of Khamis Mushait and Jazan, reports SPA.

Reuters reported that Houthis then said they had fired nine drones at ‘sensitive targets’ in Riyadh and six drones at military sites in the cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait.

Houthi rebels overthrew the Yemeni government in 2015, sparking a civil war and a devastating humanitarian crisis.

They had previously claimed to have killed hundreds of Saudi troops and carried out attacks on Saudi oil fields.

The missile comes after an Israeli ship exploded in the Gulf of Oman earlier this week, and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said his “initial assessment” was that Iran was responsible.
