“Saturday Night Live” returned from its winter break with a “Weekend Update” segment determined to catch up with the violent riots at the US Capitol and the accusation of Donald Trump.
Hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che were eager to get behind the “Weekend Update” bench again after the show became dark for the very turbulent weeks before and through the inauguration.
“A lot has happened since our last show,” Jost began the segment on Saturday. “A lot of it was good. The inauguration, it was fun. Christmas, I loved Christmas. And hey, now the terrorist watch list contains white people. So, yes, for diversity! It’s important to see yourself represented.”

Che also branded the people who violate security at the Capitol as white supremacists in a joke about President Joe Biden’s recent executive order demanding that more American manufactured goods be purchased in the US.
“President Biden has signed an executive order urging U.S. agencies to buy products manufactured in the United States,” Che began. “Unfortunately, the only products still manufactured in America are tactical equipment for white militias and student loan debt.”
Elsewhere in the segment, Che introduced Cecily Strong as a character named Cathy Anne, to talk about the ‘wrong head’ of people who stormed the Capitol earlier this month. The character also calls the rioters ‘Nazis’ and ‘White supremacists’.
“These Republicans are not going to do anything to these traitors, even if they are the ones who are going to be killed,” she said. “What the hell is wrong with them?”

The chain-smoking, dull character compared Republican lawmakers to opossums, hissed and then played dead.
Jost also commented on Trump’s historic second indictment stemming from the Capitol riots. Specifically, he complained to U.S. Senator Rand Paul, who was an outspoken critic of Democrats’ pressure to prosecute the former president, calling it unconstitutional.

“It’s times like these that I think it’s important that we as a country remember that Rand Paul got his a – kicked by his neighbor while mowing his lawn,” the host joked, referring to the violent assault that Rand suffered at the hands of his neighbor, dr. Rene Boucher, on a dispute over lawn care.
“Now, as hilarious as it should have been, violence against lawmakers was wrong and his neighbor went to jail for 8 months,” Jost continued. “We must therefore be allowed to punish the president who sent Mad Max to overthrow the government.”

Jost also suggested that Rand Paul may take part in a boxing match against Logan Paul, the well-known YouTube.

“And that way, no matter who loses, American wins,” he concluded.
