Residents have asked for shelter in parts of the Poconos after several shooting incidents

There are at least four victims in various locations.

Residents in parts of the Poconos were asked to take refuge in their place after several shooting incidents in several places left at least four injured Monday night.

The Monroe County Emergency Management Office said those on the 196 corridor between Pocono Country Place and Pocono Farms East should seek refuge and report any suspicious activity.

According to Michael Penn, mayor of Mount Pocono, the suspect is at large.

“Consider it a developmental threat to community safety,” Penn wrote on Facebook.

According to the mayor, rapid gunfire was reported in a Pocono Country Place, in the Dollar General store in Tobyhanna and in Stoogies on Rouge 196.

Police were dispatched at 5pm after a report of multiple gunshots, Christopher Wagner, Pocono Mountain police chief, told a news conference Monday night. At that point, they started receiving other calls from gunshots in the congregation.

Police said the initial reaction was at a residence and then at a shopping plaza where a 47-year-old woman was shot in the back and a 19-year-old man was shot in the arm. The woman had to be flown to a trauma center in the hospital.

A third victim, a 20-year-old man, was shot in the head in the parking lot and is unconscious, police said. Later, the fourth victim was found in a car accident, where another 20-year-old man was shot in the leg.

The circumstances of the victims are unknown.

Dollar store manager Nicole Hull told ABC News affiliate WNEP she heard several shots.

“It was cramped. I’m used to living next to a range of guns, so in my head it’s oh, it’s the weapon distance, but in reality. It was right next to us and it started in our parking lot,” the station said.

A person of interest is being questioned but no arrests have been made according to authorities.
