Rep. Dan Crenshaw says he will be ‘effectively blind’ for a month after an emergency eye operation

U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, R-Texas, will be “effectively blind” for about a month after being rushed to emergency surgery to treat a detached retina, lawmakers revealed Saturday.

The 37-year-old Crenshaw, 37, recently noticed some dark vague spots in his vision before an ophthalmologist ‘discovered on Thursday that my retina was loosening’, the two-term Texas Republican said in a long Twitter post.

“This is a frightening prediction for someone with one eye,” he wrote. “The prediction I got on Thursday is obviously very bad.”

He was operated on Friday at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston. According to Crenshaw, who told voters they would not hear from him for a few weeks, the procedure went well.

“The operation went well, but I will be blind for about a month,” Crenshaw wrote.

“That’s why you will not hear from me for a while. I probably will not be interviewing and probably will not post on social media except to update my health and recovery. ‘

The U.S. Navy SEAL lost its right eye in 2012 due to an IED explosion in Afghanistan.

“Anyone who knows the history of my injuries knows that I do not have a ‘good eye’ but half a good eye,” he wrote.

Crenshaw is best known for his run-up to ‘Saturday Night Live’ comedian Pete Davidson, who mocked the then candidate’s eyeball in 2018.

“You may be surprised to hear he’s a Texas congressional candidate and not a hit in a porn movie,” Davidson said with a photo of Crenshaw on screen. ‘I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever. ”

The setback was swift and severe, forcing an apology from Davidson.

“What I must have been a big shock to people who know me, I made a poor choice last week,” he said after the incident. “I mean it wholeheartedly. It was a poor word choice. The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world. ‘

Crenshaw got the last laugh when he appeared on ‘SNL’ and mocked Davidson, who according to him ‘looks like the method of’ Breaking Bad ‘was a person.’

During the play, Crenshaw’s cell phone “Breathin ‘” by Ariana Grande played, in a comic story during Davidson’s striking exposition with the pop princess.

Last November, Crenshaw won re-election for his seat representing the suburbs of Houston.

“Freedom is not free – it is built on the sacrifice of men and women like my friend, Dan Crenshaw,” said U.S. Representative Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, said in a statement. “Please pray for me for his speedy and full recovery.”

And the American representative Sylvia Garcia, a Houston Democrat, added: “Prayers to you, Tara and family. Let me know if I or my staff can help in any way. God bless.”
