Activision launched Black Ops Cold War and Warzone Season 2 on February 25, launching a new large-scale Zombies experience called Outbreak, six weapons free to purchase, four multiplayer maps, and a new interest in Warzone, among others.
In the battle-royal game, the Verdansk map has been updated with a shipwreck, rocket silos, mysterious Black Ops zombie terminals and a new dock at the dam.
VGzone’s current season will be the last to take place on its original Verdansk map. At the end of Season 2, the battle royal game will finally move on to its second iteration in 1980s, with new venues surrounding the Black Ops series.
The change will be marked by an explosive in-game event designed to shift Warzone narrative from the Modern Warfare era to an environment more in line with the most recent premiere series.
There is currently a free trial run for Black Ops Cold War available until March 4, giving players the chance to sample a variety of Zombies and multiplayer content.
The Zombies content features a new experience called Outbreak, which “takes place across massive playing fields throughout the Ural Mountains, crammed with new enemies, team goals, player rewards and intellectuals on foot, in vehicles or with bouncy blocks”.
The PlayStation-exclusive Zombies mode Onslaught is also included in the free trial.
On the multiplayer front, the Apocalypse 24/7 playlist includes the modes Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination and Hardpoint on one of the new maps of Season 2.
Players can also access Team Deathmatch and Domination as separate playable modes, a 24/7 Nuketown playlist, the 40-player Fireteam mode, Gun Game, a 3v3 Face Off playlist and 2v2 Gunfight Blueprints.
