Provinces in the Bay Area for vaccine shortages as the state qualifies – NBC Bay Area

Santa Clara County and other areas are starting to see a huge boom in people seeking COVID-19 vaccine shots, when residents 16 years and older are eligible on April 15th.

But health officials are also dealing with the sudden decline in vaccine stocks now that Johnson & Johnson has reduced its nationwide delivery from about 5 million doses to just 700,000.

It was a sort of affair as usual at the Levi’s Stadium vaccination center in Santa Clara on Friday.

But what has become even more irregular and unpredictable is the vaccine supply.

Congressman Ro Khanna came to the vaccination site because workers and volunteers in Santa Clara County are in the middle of a strange dilemma, an expected surge of more people seeking vaccinations while getting fewer vaccinations.

‘My understanding and conviction is that there will be many more shots within the next two to three weeks. “It was a shortage two to three weeks ago, but the situation is improving,” he said.

But the congressman acknowledges that the shortage of Johnson and Johnson is severe. Santa Clara County received more than 9,000 Johnson & Johnson shots last week and it will receive less than 3,000 this time.

Facebook is preparing to set up a clinic on its website on Saturday morning to help the Ravenswood Family Health Center. Fortunately, the Moderna shots will be fired as the Johnson & Johnson supply in San Mateo County increased from 17,000 last week to just 500.

‘This health center supports our vulnerable population near the campus. So, with the shortage of vaccines, we felt it was important to do our part and support their efforts, ”said Ashley Quintana, Facebook manager for public policy.

Facebook also has big plans to help government Gavin Newsom and nonprofits set up clinics in Central and Southern California. No matter where the sites are, progress still depends on the vaccine supply.
