She opened up about how their romance was developing, explaining: ‘We only met sporadically for two years. We were texting and such, and maybe there was a part of me who wanted something serious.
‘But I took a break from guys at that point. I did not want anyone romantic. But there was always something to Nick, and that’s why we always kept in touch, no matter where we were.
‘One thing to know about my husband is that when he decides, he’ll get what he wants! If he knows, he knows. There is such a sublime confidence that you can not help but be ‘OK’. ‘
The couple untied the knot during a lavish ceremony at Jodphur’s Umaid Bhawan Palace in December 2018, which would bring a life-changing year to an end.
Now, says Priyanka, they work through the challenge of making sure they see each other every three weeks, as their busy careers keep them in different parts of the world.

She told Elle: ‘We see each other every three weeks. Wherever we are in the world, we fly to each other at least once a month for a few days. That was our rule when we first got married. Otherwise we would never see each other. ‘
Marriage was not the only recent major change for Priyanka, who had to start her career anew after leaving superstar in India for a new life in the US.
‘The audition process was taboo in India at that time, [especially] if you become a great actor, ‘she said. ‘Well, that changed a lot, but ten years ago auditions were not something you did.
‘But [in Hollywood] it was the culture, so I had to learn it. I learned that I could not rest on my laurels and that I had to walk into a room and introduce myself to people and not feel entitled.
‘Just because a large part of the world may know me, it [doesn’t mean] everyone must. It’s always hard when you start a new career. And I completely treated [moving to America] as a new career.

‘If you think about it, I’m only been an actor in the USA for five years. I just started doing the work I really want to do. It takes time in every career. ‘
Looking for gold in Hollywood has also broken down the barriers as a few South Asian actresses in prominent lead roles outside the continent.
“I think there is such a big room for Indian talent,” she claims. ‘But it will require a mobilization of our community to support each other instead of pulling each other down.

‘I was like,’ I want to create opportunities as a producer for South Asian people in Hollywood, just like I’ve never had before. “I had to fight for it.
“I had to say, ‘I don’t want to do the extra Indian accent. If my character grew up in the UK or in the US, why would she talk like that? Why would you wear a bindi? ‘
‘It’s a silly, stereotypical thing. I braved a lot of it, and now I’m reaching a point in Hollywood where my culture is my asset instead of my definition. ‘
However, while still making progress in Hollywood, Priyanka, who recently released her memoir Unfinished, is more retired when it comes to social media.
She said: ‘My relationship with social media has changed over the last four to five years. I’m definitely much more careful now. I do not have that much interaction.
‘[Before], if I had not slept or been bored in a trailer, I would start a question and answer with fans or go live on Instagram. I’m much more careful [now]. It broke my heart a little. The sequence of everything, how easy it is to take something insignificant and make it so big … ‘
