Prince Philip’s coffin arrives at Windsor Castle amid strict security

The coffin with Prince Philip arrived at a fortified Windsor castle on Saturday morning in preparation for his afternoon funeral.

Tightened security measures include snipers on rooftops, and hundreds of officers wearing purple vests throughout the city, in what local reports call a “ring of steel”, in place of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Police are prepared to close roads as crowds begin to gather, despite warnings urging the public to stay away.

Armed policemen with body weapons – not a typical sight in Britain – patrolled the historic city and police boats moved up and down the Thames River, reports The Sun. Police even sent divers into the drains near the castle, where Prince Philip in the St. George Chapel will be buried.

The coffin was moved to the royal residence by a party of the Queen’s Company, the first battalion of Grenadier Guards, at 11:00, according to The Sun. Prince Philip was Colonel of the Grenadier Guards for 42 years.
