SAN ANGELO, TX – With a record low temperature Monday morning, many San Angelo residents are currently experiencing power outages.
According to AEP, there are 14,565 customers without power in the AEP region for San Angelo on February 15 after 33 power outages.
Sources say this is happening in all cities in Texas due to the unprecedented use of electricity during this winter storm.
Unofficially, the San Angelo region is estimated to have an electricity charge of about 350 megawatts (MW) on a normal day. The peak load is about 450 MW. Due to the increasing use throughout the country, the government agency is forcing the Energy Reliability Commission of Texas, or ERCOT, companies like AEP to reduce power in all regions, to stabilize the electricity supply of Texas. Most of the power outage today is intentional.
The national weather service reports that the temperature outside, -1 degree, is linked to the second coldest temperature of all time.
If you experience an interruption, report it by following this link. Remember to never call 9-1-1 or San Angelo Police Dispatch to report power outages.
How long a sector of the San Angelo power network has been offline is not available. AEP estimates that 95 percent of the power outage problem in San Angelo is due to the ERCOT mandates. There are some physical interruptions, but not many, and crew members are lifting the lines again.
