Police Nab would-be bank robber in San Jose, Bomb Squad responds – NBC Bay Area

According to police, police on Saturday morning arrested a prospective bank robber in West San Jose and called the bomb squad to the scene to look at a suspicious device that the robber had left behind.

At about 9:35 a.m., officers at the Chase Bank branch in the 1700 block of Saratoga Avenue, near Westgate and the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center, responded to reports of an ongoing robbery, police said.

Witnesses reported on social media that the robber was armed, but police did not immediately confirm that it was an armed robbery attempt.

A suspect was arrested at the scene and no injuries were reported, police said.

SJPD’s bomb squad responded to the scene to investigate a suspicious device that left the suspect in the bank, police said. The sofa was safely evacuated and the device was later made safe.

The bank is in one of the busiest parts of the city, with the two large shopping malls and several popular restaurants at the intersection of three main corridors: Saratoga Avenue, Lawrence Highway and Prospect Road / Campbell Avenue.
