Piers Morgan to US over frequent mass shootings: ‘Just admit you do not care’

British commentator Piers Morgan called “hypocrisy” Friday after the latest U.S. mass shooting took place at a FedEx facility in Indiana.

Morgan’s Target: The American Public.

“I wish Americans would stop pretending to be ‘shocked’ by the country’s relentless march of mass shootings,” Morgan said on Twitter.

“You can not be ‘shocked’ if something keeps happening that you do nothing to stop,” he continued. “Just admit that you do not care enough to act because you like guns too much.”

Hours before Morgan commented, a gunman who was later identified by authorities as Brandon Hole, 19, arrived at the FedEx plant in Indianapolis, killing eight people and wounding others. Hole later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.

The mass shooting followed others that took place recently in South Carolina, California, Colorado, Maryland and Georgia.

But some social media users have backed down against Morgan’s statements.

“We like freedom too much,” wrote one respondent. “That’s the word you’re looking for.”

“No, it’s more like gun control is not going to solve the problem of sin and evil in the world,” wrote another. “We need to go back to family and values.”

“Perhaps we should look at addressing the disturbed people who are committing these heinous acts and not the tools they use,” wrote another.

Earlier this month, President Biden declared gun violence in the US a ‘public health crisis’ and announced a set of gun control proposals he hoped to push through Congress. The proposed measures include a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Sensing backlash from supporters of Second Amendment gun rights, Biden insisted his plan would not infringe on personal freedoms.

“Nothing I am about to recommend affects the Second Amendment,” Biden insisted on April 8. “These are rogue arguments that suggest it is the rights of the Second Amendment that are at stake as we speak of this.”

Biden doubled on Friday and called on the Senate to approve gun laws passed by the House in March, referring to regular mass shootings as a “national embarrassment.”

Many Republicans opposed Biden’s plan, however, with some referring to it as a “gun grab.”

Biden’s GOP critics have included attorneys general from Arkansas, West Virginia and Montana.

“I will not allow the far left to rule over our citizens’ gun rights,” West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey wrote on April 9. “If President Biden complies with his proposals, we will be in court very soon.”
