Pentagon police officer who is not on duty is charged with murder for allegedly killing 2

The incident took place in Maryland on Wednesday.

David Hall Dixon, a Pentagon Force Protection Agency police officer who was on duty during a fatal shooting incident in Maryland, is charged with second-degree murder for the murder of two people, Takoma Park police said Friday.

The murdered were identified by Takoma Park police as Dominique Williams, 32, and James Lionel Johnson, 38.

The shooting, according to police, took place in a parking lot early Wednesday.

Shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday, Takoma Park police responded to reports of shots being fired in the parking lot of the Takoma Overlook Condominiums, according to a departmental news release issued Wednesday.

A Pentagon Force Protection Agency official, who was out of service, approached police in Takoma Park and said he saw what he believed was a car that had broken into and ‘involved the suspects who were not his command did not follow ‘, according to the Wednesday statement.

When the “suspects” tried to “flee” in a vehicle, the Pentagon’s protection agency officer “unloaded his service weapon”, Takoma Park police said.

The two men who were shot were taken to hospital and there they died, police said.

Dixon is also charged with second-degree attempted murder of Michael Thomas, 36, the driver of the vehicle in which he shot, police said Friday.

He is also facing three charges for using a gun in connection with a crime and two charges of reckless threat, police said.

Dixon was arrested without incident Friday morning, according to the release.

Carlean Ponder, an activist with the Silver Spring Justice Coalition, said it was a ‘relief’ that the officer was charged.

“For us, there were a lot of questions surrounding this incident,” Ponder told ABC News.

Ponder also said that the ‘biggest problem is the excessive use of force’, and the use of deadly force.

The Takoma Park Police Department has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. Friday.
