Jackson is said to have had a fiery temper, and that interviews with the Pentagon’s watchdog said he would be heard “subordinates shouting, screaming, cursing or belittling.”
He was also seen drinking during presidential trips, including one in 2014 to Manila during which he was apparently intoxicated and made inappropriate remarks about a female colleague working under him. Similar remarks were allegedly heard on other trips as well.
At least six interviewers told the Inspector General that Jackson also took Ambien on long flights while on duty, leaving them worried that he would not be able to provide care due to the drug’s ability to drowsiness cause and reduce alertness.
Neither the Pentagon’s Inspector General nor Jackson responded immediately to requests for comment from The Hill.
In a statement to CNN, Jackson slammed the report as an attempt by Democrats to slander him. Jackson retired from the Navy in 2019 and won his seat in Texas House last year.
“I am proud of the work environment I have cultivated under three different presidents of both parties; I take my professional responsibility for prescription drugs seriously; and I reject the allegation that I drank alcohol while on duty,” Jackson said. said .
