Pedro Pascal plays as Joel in ‘The Last Of Us’ HBO series based on video games – deadline

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the biggest TV roles of the year, The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal is on the points ladder The last of us, HBO’s sensational series adaptation of the Sony Playstation franchise from Chernobyl creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Based on the much acclaimed video game The last of us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, plays the story twenty years after modern civilization was destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardy survivor, is hired to kill Ellie (Game of Thrones‘Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, from an oppressive quarantine zone. What started as a small job soon becomes a cruel, heartbreaking journey, as they both have to drive across the US and depend on each other for survival.

Pascal’s Joel, tormented by trauma and failure in the past, must pull through a pandemic-plagued America while protecting a girl who represents the last hope of humanity.

It’s a homecoming for Pascal who became a household name with his role as Oberyn Martell on the HBO mega-hit Game of Thrones.

Pascal is currently starring in Disney +’s hugely popular and award-winning series The Mandalorian, who recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series. I hear he is expected to continue with the Star Wars series, where, however, he is used sparingly due to the premise of his character The last of us put him in first place.

The actor recently became available for a new series, which attracts several major offers from top premium networks and streamers, and prefers to do so The last of us.

Pascal is playing the lead role while the villain, Max Lord, in Wonder Woman 1984. The Narcos and Kingsman: The Golden Circle star is currently in production at Judd Apatow’s The bubble for Netflix. He is awarded by WME, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Kantemir Balagov is directing the pilot episode of The last of us, a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog.

Druckmann and Mazin write and executive products; Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones, Chernobyl) also executive producers with Naughty Dog president Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions.
