Patrick Mahomes won Super Bowl LV to catch Tom Brady, says Tony Romo

A Super Bowl LV victory for Patrick Mahomes would mean a lot to his career, former NFL fullback Tony Romo said on Friday.

Mahomes is on the verge of becoming an excellent full-back of all time, but if he wants to catch Tom Brady, a Super Bowl LV victory is a must-win for him, the CBS broadcaster told reporters.

“The fact that Patrick Mahomes is somehow participating in this discussion shows you how wonderful this man is,” Romo said via Boston.com. “There’s a chance for Patrick Mahomes to play this game, to climb the ladder. If Mahomes wins, he keeps the door open. If Brady wins, I do not know how anyone can top him.

“It’s the biggest game Patrick Mahomes will ever play the rest of his career. It’s the only way to catch Tom Brady. If he loses this game, in my opinion he can not catch Tom Brady.”

Mahomes can play in theory as long as Brady has and wins just as many Super Bowls. He’s just in his fourth year in the league and is playing for his second Super Bowl title. Brady had three Super Bowl rings by his fifth season in the NFL. He did not win his fourth until the 2014 season.

Mahomes could be the third full-back to win Super Bowl MVP awards and the Kansas City Chiefs could be the first team to win rugby titles since the 2003-04 season when the New England Patriots did so.
