The Texas Republican who cast the party’s only vote in favor of George Floyd Justice in Police Act said in a tweet that has now been removed that he ‘accidentally pressed the wrong button’, reads a report .
The House voted Wednesday, according to party parties, to enforce the measure, a Democrat-backed bill that seeks to enforce comprehensive police reform following Floyd’s death during a meeting with Minneapolis police last May.
Rep. Lance Gooden took to Twitter shortly after the vote to mention the mistake and warn followers that he ‘changed the official record to reflect my opposition to the biased George Floyd Police Act’.

“I have probably the most conservative / American first voting record in Congress!” he later tweeted. “Of course I would not support the anti-police law of the radical left. I changed the official record to reflect my opposition!”
The wide-ranging bill will review standards for police tactics and conduct at the federal level. Prominent measures include a federal ban on warrants and stitches without beating, restrictions on qualified immunity that protects police from civil lawsuits, a framework to prevent racial profiling, and the establishment of a national registry on allegations of police misconduct.

GOP critics, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, have argued that removing the liability shield would undermine public safety and make it difficult to recruit.
