Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy reveals why she stopped acting, saying she was ’embarrassed’ by previous roles

Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy gained notoriety at an early age and now at 28 she says she has kissed goodbye to her acting career.

The “iCarly” star discusses her departure from the play in the recent episode of her podcast “Empty Inside” in which actress Anna Faris was seen as a guest.

When Faris asked McCurdy if she would ever act as a ‘refuge’, McCurdy revealed that she decided to quit a few years ago.

“I stopped trying to write and direct my hand a few years ago – it’s going great,” she said with a laugh. “I quit a few years ago because I initially did not want to do it. My mother put me in it when I was 6 and by kind of age, I think, 10 or 11, I was the most important financial support for my family. It was a lot that the pressure of my family did not have a lot of money, and it was the way out that I thought was helpful in helping me to some degree of success, because I do not think I would have been as ambitious as I was “I do not know that it is for my family. I had to do good and make my mark and nail my thing.”

McCurdy said acting was “always, always, always difficult” because of the anxiety that came with it.

“I’m going to auditions … I’ll be so stressed that my heart would just beat, I would get so damp, it was really a battle of nerves. When I first got the nerves under control, that was when I started to “really got a little traction, but I finally stopped after my mother passed away, because with her death, many of her ideas for my life died, and it was his own journey, and it was definitely a difficult one,” she said.

McCurdy asked Faris about her own entry into acting, and the former “Mom” star explained that her interest started at an early age when her mother enrolled her in “imagination” classes. From there, Faris performed in the community theater.

“I loved acting, but it was not so clear at all. I do not remember saying, ‘This is what I want to do,'” Faris explained.

The actress “House Bunny” further said that acting had become ‘my identity outside of school’, and considered herself lucky that she could decide for herself to quit university. “By that point, my parents were no longer in my career for a long time. However, I can not imagine that it should have been really difficult,” she said of McCurdy’s personal experience. “It’s a very different journey than I was.”

Finally, McCurdy said she believes that during her transformative years, she hinders her ability to develop her own emotions at the time.

“For me, as a child, I had my own emotions in the background. I think it was really detrimental to my own emotional well-being, because the emotions of this character were the priority. I also always played the sad, crying thing,” she said.

McCurdy noted that she is outraged about her previous acting career because she is not particularly proud of the roles she has played.

“My experience with acting is that I’m so ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past,” she said. “I indignant my career in many ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles I played and felt it was the most beautiful, embarrassing. I did the shows where I was from 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already embarrassed. My friends at 15 were not like, ‘Oh, cool, you’re in this Nickelodeon show.’ “It was an embarrassment. And I imagine that there can be a very different experience with acting if you are proud of your roles and if you feel fulfilled by them.”

McCurdy also touched on the judgment she received at a young age. One thing that still haunts her today is the hearing of a former agent who describes her image as ‘domestic’.

“My agent, I literally hear her go on the speakerphone: ‘They want an ethereal beauty. Jennette is not an ethereal beauty. She’s homey. She reads homey,'” the former actress said. “And I was like, OK, I think I read at home.”
