NFL announces compensatory choices for 2021 draft

The NFL has awarded compensatory draft picks to teams in the 2021 draft.

These choices are awarded to the teams that suffered the most significant loss of free agent during the 2020 season. This year, the NFL awarded 36 comp picks. The comp-selection formula assigns choices that have suffered the largest net losses, so teams that have signed multiple free agents have a smaller chance of receiving choices. The Cowboys are at the top of the list (shared below) with four leagues in the league.

A change to this year’s formula has taken place, with the NFL awarding four picks to teams that have seen one of their minorities become a head coach or GM. The 49ers, Rams, Ravens and Saints have selected a third round this year. They will receive an additional third round in 2022 Brad Holmes (Lions GM); the Ravens lost the coach of the fullback David Culley (Texans HC); the Saints lose assistant GM Terry Fontenot (Valke GM). Through the loss of the VP of player staff Martin Mayhew (Washington GM) and Defense Coordinator Robert Saleh (Jets HC), the 49ers will also select an additional third round in 2023.
