Netflix lets some Android users around the world on a timer that will automatically shut down the app after a while. If you use streaming programs or movies to put you to sleep or put them on in the background to get things done, you may need to keep an eye on the feature.

The timer function appears in the upper right corner of the media control header while the content is streaming. Users can set the app to keep running within a period of 15 minutes, or at the end of the current application.

A toast alert will appear when the timer is set to expire, with the option for users to “snooze” it slumber a sleep timer – although we do not know if this only slows down or completely cancels the closing of the app.

Netflix told The Verge that the feature is currently only available on adult profiles and can be distributed to all users on mobile as well as computers and TVs as feedback is encouraging and applications are relevant.

The ultimate goal is presumably to enable consumers to save power as they would with older TVs and home appliances such as fans.
